The event brought together researchers, students, and experts in bioinformatics, computational genomics, medicine, and biology, aiming to build a strong scientific community in Eastern Europe.
The program combined lectures, keynote talks, and hands-on group work, offering both in-person and remote participation options. Courses took place at the Technical University of Moldova, while the final events were hosted at the Mediacor building.
This edition featured 13 distinguished speakers from institutions across the USA, Switzerland, France, Denmark, Turkey, Poland, and Romania. Topics covered included:
Population genetics and phylogeny reconstruction (Prof. Alexander Zelikovsky)
Next-generation sequencing analysis and variant calling (Prof. Serghei Mangul)
Hidden Markov models and genome data analysis
Translational bioinformatics and applications in medicine
Scientific communication and open science best practices
Applications of AI in genomics and city microbiomes
Keynote talks were delivered by leading scientists such as Prof. Shilpa Garg, Dr. Mohammed Alser, Prof. Mark Robinson, Dr. Nicole Nogoy, Prof. Encarnita Mariotti-Ferrandiz, Prof. Paweł Łabaj, and others.
The school culminated in group project presentations, a quiz, award ceremonies, and networking activities, fostering lasting collaborations and skills development in the field of bioinformatics and computational genomics.

Organized in partnership with “Ștefan cel Mare” University of Suceava (USV) and the Technical University of Moldova, this edition featured a unique cross-border format, hosted in both Romania and Moldova, highlighting regional academic collaboration.
EEBG 2024 brought together students and researchers from bioinformatics, computational genomics, medicine, and biology. The program offered lectures, workshops, and group projects on key topics such as:
Population and medical genetics
Statistics and biological data analysis
Visualization and interpretation of genomic data
Data structures for biological sequences
Bioinformatics techniques and applications
Participants worked on interdisciplinary research projects, including:
Network analysis in rheumatoid arthritis
Assessment of microbial genome representation in reference databases
Projects were evaluated by a scientific commission including Prof. Serghei Mangul, Prof. Taras Oleksyk, Dr. Olha Petrenko, and others. The top seven project teams were selected to present their work at the BioGENext Conference, held in Kyiv, Ukraine (September 17–20, 2024), featuring leading global scientists such as O.O. Abudayyeh, J. Bujnicki, J. Gootenberg, and B. Kleinstiver.
EEBG 2024 once again proved to be a hub for academic excellence, networking, and the advancement of bioinformatics in Eastern Europe.
